The experience
What a Himalayan retreat is actually like
A retreat with NSHISCHOOL is deliberately unhurried. The value is in the space around the practice as much as the practice itself. Here’s how the days tend to go, and what to expect from the place and the people.

The rhythm of a day
Slow on purpose
There is a shape to each day, but plenty of room in it. You are never far from the next session, and never rushed to it.
- Early morning
A gentle wake, then meditation and slow movement while it's still quiet. Nothing strenuous — the aim is to arrive in the day.
- Mid-morning
A longer sound session. You lie down, covered and supported, and the practice does its work while you rest.
- Afternoon
Unstructured time — walk, write, sleep, talk, or nothing at all. One afternoon usually includes a short local visit.
- Evening
A final practice as the light goes — often a gong session — then a shared meal and an early night.
What to expect
The place and the people
Simple and comfortable
Accommodation is unfussy — clean rooms, shared or single, good vegetarian Nepali food, quiet surroundings.
A small group
Retreats are kept small so the teaching stays personal and the group settles quickly.
Held with care
The team is with you throughout. Tell us about any health needs beforehand so the retreat can be shaped around them.
